The last week was filled to the brim with lots of positives! The week started out with an "assembly" with the Living Hope Christian Academy students and the staff on site. The students sang a beautiful song, and the coach had such a good message reminding us that we are all here to serve the Lord. Whether we are kitchen staff, students, maintanace - all we do is for Him. It was finished off with coffee & a treat (which tasted like an oliebollen for all you Dutchies reading!), and it was nice to have some informal engaging.
Jon was working very closely with a solar-power technician from South Africa who was here for the week (though I have no proof as I didn't follow them around and taking pictures). I won't pretend to know the first thing about solar power - but I do know that they rose with the sun and worked till late evenings to work out all the kinks and get the system running well! Jon feels like he has a much better understanding after being under such helpful instruction!
On Saturday, the site pastor started up a Discipleship Training Course for the children & staff of Living Hope! One of my favorite quotes from that hour was when he said, "We don't just want a church filled with people, we want the people to be filled with Christ." What a blessing to have a pastor who cares so much about the people he interacts with. We are looking forward to continuing the training again this week!
On Sunday, Living Hope hosted 2 soccer games for the children that live on site vs. community children. It was so cool to see the fence lined with spectators from the villages, and see the kids work hard at the game. The coach included Austin in the mid-week soccer training, and he also got to join the Sunday game - which he loved!!
That is a quick summary of what's been going on over here. Besides the previously mentioned, the days have included homeschool, daily chores, visits to the playing field with the LH kids (our kids' favorite), laundry, hair braiding, grocery trips & a super lovely potluck with fellow Canadians!
We brought 4 skateboards with from Canada that get used non-stop!
Daily chores include scrubbing shoes because they cannot possibly stay clean with all the red dust/dirt!
The sweetest security guard who loves to braid!
First time grilling meat over a charcoal fire!
And this last one just because I can't get over the beauty of this place! Our yard has palm trees & cacti in it!! Love this space so much!
That about wraps up things for now! Thanks for reading along!
Love,
Renae
